UEHS sophomore multi-instrumentalist Eamonn Hubert was awarded the KJ James Memorial Scholarship and presented with a check for $2,000 at the New York State Blues Festival in Syracuse in June.
The scholarship is awarded each year to promising young performers 18 and under. Eamonn was required to submit video and audio recordings of his performing and songwriting abilities in addition to an essay discussing the importance of music in general and, specifically blues music, in his life. This is the second KJ James scholarship award for Eamonn. He earned second place in the competition in 2016 just before his eighth birthday. He has performed three times on the main stage at the Blues Festival, the youngest performer to take the stage, and has been fortunate enough to meet acclaimed blues musicians Vanessa Collier (saxophone/guitar/vocals), Clarence Spady (guitar/vocals), Samantha Fish (guitar/cigar box/vocals), and many others there.
In addition, Eamonn and his band, Hot Dogs & Gin were the opening act for world-renowned blues, rock & funk guitarist Eric Gales on June 24 at the Center for the Arts in Homer. Congratulations!

The CFJ English as a Next Language team (ENL) did a fantastic job recognizing and appreciating the efforts of the 16 Bilingual Buddies from Kindergarten through Grade 5. These students used their first languages of Spanish, Ukrainian, Arabic, Bangladeshi, and Russian to support their fellow students, teachers, and families throughout the year.
Students and staff enjoyed a celebratory lunch and summer goodie bags to highlight their achievements and acknowledge their dedication to helping others.
Having Bilingual Buddies who can assist with language support is invaluable, as they bridge communication gaps and create a more inclusive and supportive environment for all. This recognition will surely inspire other students to embrace their bilingual abilities and contribute meaningfully to their communities.
Congratulations to the Bilingual Buddies for their outstanding work, and kudos to the ENL Team for organizing such a memorable end-of-year celebration!

Congratulations to a number of student musicians who were selected for the BCMEA Festival II, held this past weekend at Binghamton University. All students were selected based on their auditions. After less than two days of rehearsal, they put on a fantastic concert. Congratulations on an excellent musical experience!
