Girl Scouts

During this year’s Girl Scout cookie season, four local troops turned a beloved annual tradition into an opportunity to give back. Pooling their efforts, the Girl Scouts collected donations to purchase over 100 boxes of cookies for the U-E Family Support and Food Center, showing that the spirit of community runs just as strong as the drive to sell Thin Mints.

The large donation was the result of a collaborative campaign across multiple troops. Instead of focusing only on sales, the girls made it a mission to help others enjoy the comfort and sweetness of Girl Scout Cookies, particularly those facing tough times.

The cookie delivery took place on Monday, April 7. Scouts from each troop gathered at the U-E Family Support and Food Center to drop off the donation, meet staff, and learn more about the center’s services. During the visit, the young girls received a tour of the facility, asked thoughtful questions, and gained insight into how the center supports local families with food, clothing, and other basic needs.

Tom Mitchell, coordinator of the support center, expressed gratitude for the donation and the chance to engage with the young volunteers. “This isn’t just about cookies—it’s about community. These girls are learning what it means to be leaders and helpers, and that’s a powerful thing to witness.”

For the Girl Scouts, the project offered more than just another badge—it gave them a firsthand experience of how small actions can make a big difference.
