Two meteorologists from the National Weather Service, Ms. Danielle Knittle and Mr. Mike Murphy, visited four CFJ kindergarten classes to teach students about weather, seasons, and safety during severe storms. They explained how meteorologists predict weather using specialized tools such as thermometers, barometers, anemometers, and Doppler radar. The students learned how changes in air and ocean temperatures influence weather patterns, leading to different weather unitconditions like rain, snow, hurricanes, and tornadoes.

Ms. Knittle and Mr. Murphy also emphasized the importance of weather safety, teaching students what to do during thunderstorms, tornadoes, and other hazardous conditions. They demonstrated how meteorologists use weather balloons to collect atmospheric data, showing an actual weather balloon in person. The children watched a video of a balloon being released into the sky, where it gathers critical information about temperature, air pressure, and humidity to help forecast the weather.

The visit sparked curiosity and excitement among the young students, who had the opportunity to ask questions and engage in hands-on learning. Through interactive discussions and real-world examples, the meteorologists provided an engaging and educational experience that deepened the students’ understanding of the science behind weather.
