Sled dogs

Dale and Mary Pitcher of Sled Dogs of Smokey Hill brought three special visitors to Therese sled dogYacobelli’s kindergarten class—their three beautiful Huskies: Drifter, Kai, and Coda!

Students have been learning all about the Iditarod Sled Dog Race, a famous long-distance race held in Alaska every March. Throughout the event, they will track three mushers and their sled dog teams while discovering how Huskies are cared for, what they eat, how they rest, and the extreme weather they face.

During the visit, the Pitchers introduced their dogs, shared what makes Huskies perfect for sled racing, and even let students stand on the back of a real sled! To top it off, students are creating husky watercolor art inspired by their learning.

What an unforgettable, hands-on experience!
