The benefits of learning another language can be far-reaching regarding career and working in a global economy. To that end, UEHS held its fifth Seal of Biliteracy Ceremony as seven UEHS seniors were recognized for proficiency in English and another world language.
Congratulations to the following students who earned this seal:
Italian: Jacob Bender, Veronica Bowman, Kimberly Merlino, Aiden Stanton, and Giada Circensi who will receive her medal next year as a senior, along with a medal in Spanish as her second language.
French: Mckenna Buck, Dakota Limbert, and Layla Swezey.
Spanish: Landon Phetphongsy and Cade Taveras.
The requirements for earning the Seal of Biliteracy are demanding, involving specific Regents and AP score criteria and meeting world language checkpoints in both English and the target language. Additionally, students must deliver a culminating presentation in the target language to a panel of language experts. These criteria ensure that the seal represents a significant accomplishment and serves as a notable achievement for the students.
Since the introduction of the Seal of Biliteracy in the 2018-19 academic year, 47 students from UEHS have earned this accolade. This demonstrates the commitment of the school to promoting language learning and fostering global competence among its students.
