Trying new foods is a fun learning experience with the Broome Tioga BOCES Rock on Café! CFJ fourth graders had the opportunity to decide what kind of fruit they liked and whether it tasted better fresh or dried. Rusna Dhillon, an intern at Broome-Tioga BOCES School Nutrition Services Rock on Café provided a fun interactive food lesson.
They learned what types of plants the fruit is grown on and how fresh fruit is made into dried fruit. Many students were surprised that raisins are dried grapes. Students sampled fresh and dried apples, grapes, and mangos and voted on what they liked the best!
Rusna is attending the University of Alabama majoring in food and nutrition.
