UEHS and JFS students recently participated in the short story and poetry competition for this school year’s Tri-Cities Woman’s Club Writing Contest. Three local districts took part in the contest. For the middle school category, JFS students swept the short story and poetry competition by taking first, second, and third places with their short stories and poems. In the high school category, one student placed in the short story competition.
Winning the short story competition for the middle school category was Aurelia DeNardis with her story, “Dinner Drama.” Placing second was Lucy Salati with “Out of the Wood, and in third place was Vanessa Dallard with her short story, “Stop and Smell the Roses.”
In the poetry division, Baily Worden won first place for her poem, “Perfection.” In second place was Elizabeth Cachilli with her poem, “Our Autumn Night,” and in third place was Kaylee Fledderman with “I’m Sensitive.”
At the high school level, Reese Dimon placed second with her short story, “Sisters of the Sea.”
Reese Dimon, Vanessa Dallard, and Bailey Worden are all previous winners of this contest. Because Bailey and Aurelia placed first in their categories, their poem and short story have moved on to district-level judging and could potentially be moved to state-level judging.
Dorothy Bachman, President of the Tri-Cities Writing Club, would like to congratulate all the winners and thank everyone who participated. She encourages all students to continue writing and to consider submitting a poem or short story next fall.
