GFJ Garden Club gathered for its September Harvest Party. Nearly 17 students and 15 adults harvested all that was grown from the garden and cooked some delicious food.
Students enjoyed picking tomatoes, garlic, onions, and peppers to make salsa. With some adult help students made a cabbage salad with a vinaigrette dressing using fresh herbs.
They also conducted some taste tests. Which is better, green, or yellow beans? Is Swiss chard a favorite? Which one, yellow, pink, or red?
Students, staff, and family also enjoyed a variety of garden-inspired dishes for everyone to taste and enjoy including fried eggplant, basil pesto, baked kale and cheese dip, butternut squash casserole, roasted golden beets, baked potatoes, cabbage salad, tomato salsa, kale salad, and pickled green beans. And no one could resist munching on fresh raw vegetables! Thanks to all the families who helped keep the garden healthy this summer. And to the GFJ PTA for supporting the GFJ Garden Club.
