As technology grows as an educational tool in schools, it is important for educators to be knowledgeable in all its aspects. Over the summer, U-E teachers Liz Scalcione and Emily Siegel attended an eight-day professional development camp focusing on cybersecurity.
The goals of the "GenCyber Teacher Program", held at Binghamton University, were to highlight cybersecurity awareness, improve teacher readiness to develop age-appropriate content and help students stay safe online. Designed like a summer camp, teachers learned about computer and network fundamentals, cyber ethics, careers in cybersecurity, and much more.
Camp staff included professors from the computer science department and the teaching, learning, and educational leadership program who shared their expertise in curriculum development and the aspects of cybersecurity in education.
By incorporating these concepts into the classroom, schools can foster a generation of digitally savvy and responsible individuals.
