UEHS student Isabella Torres was looking for something fun and new to do this summer and the "All About Trees and Becoming a Sawyer" course in the Summer Enrichment program was the perfect course. Taught by UEHS P-Tech teacher Mike Wichowski, students learned about different native species of trees in our area and the processing of those trees into usable materials.
After searching for an idea, Isabella found a picture of what she wanted to create. She worked through the design process, and with Mr. Wichowski's help, machined and built the piece. She then completed all the finishing work.
In addition to learning about the trees in our area, students got hands-on experiences in working with wood and creating a piece from start to finish.
