Two UEHS student organizations joined forces for a hands-on project benefiting the community. Girl Up and the Biology Club members worked together to create and donate over 270 tubes of ChapStick to those in need.
With guidance from district parent volunteer Suzanne Manley, students learned the science behind lip balm production. They carefully mixed ingredients like beeswax, cocoa butter, and essential oils in sterile containers before using plastic syringes to fill each capsule. The final step involved shrink-wrapping the tubes to ensure they were properly sealed and ready for use.
The finished ChapStick was distributed to the U-E Family Support Center and placed in hygiene bins throughout the high school, providing students and families with a much-needed resource.
Beyond the donation itself, this project was a valuable learning experience. It allowed students to develop practical skills, explore the chemistry behind everyday products, and work together toward a shared goal of helping the community.
This collaboration highlights the power of student-led initiatives and the impact they can have both inside and outside the classroom.
