Graduation day is meant to be a joyful celebration—a milestone filled with pride, hope, and the promise of a bright future. For Jacy Good, her college graduation day began just like that. But in a matter of moments, everything changed.
Jacy visited Union-Endicott High School to share her story with juniors and seniors through Hang Up and Drive, a program she founded to raise awareness about the dangers of distracted driving. Her heartfelt and heart-wrenching presentation recounted the events of that life-altering day and the profound consequences of one driver's split-second decision.
During her visit, Jacy detailed the tragic collision caused by a driver distracted by a phone. The crash took the lives of her parents, left Jacy critically injured, and forever altered the course of her life. With courage and determination, she has transformed her pain into purpose by advocating for safer roads and urging others to take the dangers of distracted driving seriously.
Through raw emotion and vivid storytelling, Jacy connected with students, illustrating the devastating ripple effects of distracted driving. Her message wasn’t just about the risks—it was about making a commitment to change.
We are deeply grateful to Jacy for sharing her story and inspiring our students to make safer choices. Special thanks to Christine Marion from the Broome County Health Department and UEHS teacher Lisa Chavez for bringing this important program to Union-Endicott High School.
Jacy’s visit was a stark reminder that the decisions we make behind the wheel affect not only ourselves but countless others. Her story empowers students to take action: to put their phones down, focus on the road, and encourage their peers to do the same.
