UEHS health students recently took part in the impactful "Just Drive" program, organized by the Broome County Health Department in partnership with the Sheriff’s Office. This two-day initiative aims to educate young drivers about the risks of dangerous driving behaviors and reinforce the importance of making safe, responsible choices behind the wheel. The program is structured to engage students in both discussion-based and hands-on learning experiences.
On the first day, students were introduced to realistic driving scenarios involving common risks such as distractions, drowsiness, speeding, and impairment. Working in groups, they identified potential choices for each situation and assessed the consequences of their decisions.
On the second day, students participated in several divided-attention activities that simulated impairment or distraction. These interactive exercises allowed them to experience firsthand how such conditions impact their ability to focus and react while driving.
The "Just Drive" program provides an invaluable opportunity for students to develop safer driving habits through education and practice. By fostering awareness and critical thinking, it equips young drivers with the tools they need to make better choices on the road—promoting safety for themselves and others.
