In a heartwarming display of community and connection, Amanda Atkinson’s seventh-grade social studies classes at JFS embarked on a unique project this past Valentine's season when they asked for Valentine’s Day cards.
The initiative invited people from across the United States and beyond to send Valentine's Day cards to their classroom. Their request for cards resonated far and wide, touching over 90 locations throughout the USA and beyond.
They received over 100 Valentines from over 90 locations throughout the USA and the world. The students eagerly awaited each delivery, cherishing not only the cards themselves but also the opportunity to learn about new places and cultures.
The highlight of the project was undoubtedly the interactive mapping activity. Armed with their newly received Valentines, students plotted out the locations on the maps, connecting the dots between their classroom and places as distant as Europe, Asia, and Australia.
The project not only enriched the students' understanding of geography and cultural diversity but also instilled in them a deep appreciation for global connections and the kindness of strangers
Thank you to everyone who shared their request on social media platforms, and to those who sent a Valentine. The students loved getting mail and learning fun facts about different places.
