BOE recognition

Before its regular meeting, the Board of Education learned about the students and staff who help make JFS a community school.

The OPA Team holds down the fort, so to speak. They work with the students, teachers, and parents, and they keep the building running smoothly.

Kailey Graver is the new community school coordinator at JFS. She has been a huge asset to the attendance initiative, home visits, needs assessments, access to services, and the Promise Zone. She planned the Jingle for Joy event that served over 80 community members ensuring that they had a holiday meal, free haircuts, holiday pictures, and financial support for gifts and food. Students participated in holiday activities and were able to shop for a loved one. And…she secured a private donation to pay for all of it.

Students Jadaya Kendrick, Lava Taha, and Isabella Ross, along with Mrs. Nicole Derick, volunteered (and still do) at a local church helping with food preparation, cooking, and serving those in need.

Lucy Salati, Kelan Krasowski, Vada Savory, and Mora Dannibale designed and delivered a presentation to 5th graders at all elementary schools to help with the transition to middle school. They answered the toughest questions and helped to address the gaps between elementary and middle school. The presentation is designed to help incoming students feel more at ease with entering middle school.
